Things To Remember When Hiring A Freelance Writer

There are so many freelance writers available that it is sometimes difficult to know which one to choose for a job. When you are dealing with strict deadlines, you need to make sure that you have a freelance writer that will be able to get the paper back in time to meet your own deadlines. You also want to make sure that you have a freelancer that can give you the quality that you need and want.

When hiring a freelance writer, you may need to remember some things to ensure that you are going to get everything you expect to get out of the job. Since you are going to have to pay for the work that you get and the freelance writer is going into the job blind without knowing why you need the information, there are some things that you need to handle.

  1. Be clear
  2. The more information that you can give on your project; the better off you will be. To ensure that you are going to get the results that you expect to get out of your freelance writer, you really need to make sure that you are very clear about what you want them to do. You can’t expect the freelancer to just know what you want. You have to tell them exactly what you expect to get back. A description that is very descriptive may scare some freelance writers away and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It will make it very clear what you want and that allows the freelancer to decide whether they will be able to fulfil your requirements. You don’t want to hire someone that thought they could complete the task and then once you have given all the details, they realize that they can’t.

  3. Be clear about your price cap
  4. If you have a budget for this project, you want to make sure that the prospective client understands the maximum amount that you are willing to pay for a particular project. This will automatically weed out the freelance writers that are expecting to get more than you are willing to pay. You don’t want to waste your time narrowing it down to a few freelance writers just to find out that they are expecting way more than you have to pay.

  5. Be ready to communicate
  6. You should be available to communicate with your freelance writer frequently. You have to find a way to be able to check your email frequently so that your freelance writer has access to the information that they need if they get stuck or have any questions along the way. They are working for you, so if they have any questions, you want them to ask you and not make the decisions. To ensure that you are able to contact them at any time, you should hook your freelance account to your email. It would be even better if you can get your email on your phone. That way you will have instant access to your freelancers at all times.

  7. Don’t pay in advance
  8. There are a lot of scammers out there. Unless you are working with a company that acts as a mediator between you and the freelance writer, don’t make any payments. If there is a company as a mediator who will hold the money in between the two parties until the job is complete, then you can pay the mediator to show your good faith to the freelance writer.

Hiring a freelancer can be a little complicated. You really don’t know what to expect. However, if you remember these key areas, it should work out better for you more times than not.
