What It Takes To Become A Great Freelance Writer

Every freelancer needs to know about these three helpful tips in order to achieve greatness:

  • Punctuality
  • Willingness to work
  • Go a step further
  • Punctuality
  • Be punctual when reporting for work. In the jobs that require daily communication do not leave your employer hanging. While it is usually true that you can pick the hours you work, pick them with care and stick to that schedule. Your employer will understand that a schedule can be interrupted, like by a family emergency or getting sick, but try not to make a habit of deviating too much from your established timetable. Being punctual will earn your employer’s notice and he or she will most likely mention it in the feedback they leave on your profile. Future employers will then note this when they look at your résumé whilst considering hiring you.

  • Willingness to work
  • You will not always get the job you want. Being a freelancer does offer a bit of freedom in perusing multiple jobs and selecting the one you like best, but sometimes your only option will be to get a job that normally you would not have preferred. To those freelancers who are just starting out the job and pay may leave something to be desired, but in order to become great one must start from the bottom and work your way up. Showing a willingness to work will impress your employer, even if they know that you would rather be doing something else. Every completed job will open the door of opportunities a little wider and get you closer to the jobs you would rather do, which is why being willing to work in the areas you would rather not is important.

  • Go a step further
  • Do not just do the bare minimum of work. Like the parable that told of carrying a bag an extra mile, so too should you be willing to do more than the minimal amount required. If you are doing an editing or proofreading job, do not just go through the work once and return it. Use the time you have to do a read through at least three times, so as to better ensure accuracy in your editing. Doing an excellent job will be noticed by your employer and make him or her leave very favorable feedback, which will then be seen by future employers and make them take your proposal under serious consideration.
