You don’t necessarily have to have a degree to be a freelance writer. Writing is something that you are either born knowing how to do and how to be successful doing or something that you have perfected over the years. The lessons that you learned about how to write a paper or essay in second or third grade is still relevant to today and all future essay writing. The grammar and spelling skills that you learned in your English classes over the years are enough to get you started.

I do think that some writing ability is raw talent that you either have or you don’t have. But education does take these skills to the next level as you learn how to articulate your ideas and create variety in your sentence structures.

Some job seekers may need jobs accomplished without the skill of a talented writer. They may just want a normal opinion that is down to earth. They may need a freelancer without the writing jazz and professional writing ability to create product reviews or other necessary writing jobs.

So whether you have a degree or not, you may still be an effective freelance writer. There is a need for all sorts of individuals. Freelance writers may even have a degree in another field besides writing which is okay too. Just give yourself a chance and see if it works for you.
